I recorded the Stand up 2 Cancer event that was on Friday and watched it two nights ago. The 11 year old child on the show who was shown and is the spokesperson for Brain Cancer has medulloblastoma-the same cancer that Owen has. There was also a child depicted, as well, when different celebrities were talking about real-life stories from people who have lost their lives from cancer. The celebrity discussing that child ended with "My son was 4 1/2. All he wanted to be was 5." That was the only point during the show that I cried, because holy cow, it completely captured exactly what is happening right now, and how Owen, and all 4 1/2 year olds, feel about life. I will from here on out stop complaining about birthdays and getting older. So many never even have the chance...

Jen I also watched the Cancer Special and did have tears through most and especially when the young child described exactly what Owen has. I talk to God every day and he has let me know how special Owen is--please give him a great big hug and tell him Coach loves him.
Jen,
I wish I could give you strength. My heart is just so sad for you and the boys. Please know I am here. Give Owen a hug for me please.

I missed the special as my son was just getting out of being inpatient, but thank you for blogging about it because I found you. My now 8 year old was dx with medulloblastoma in Feb. 2008. This whole cancer thing is such a scary ride, but I have hope that their will be a real cure, not just the ones the oncologist dole out when chemo is finished and we go back for scans praying for a clean picture.
Jen- I started going through your blog a little bit more after posting my last comment. I have 3 boys also, only Kevin is my oldest. A couple of things cancer has taught me is: life isn't fair; during our 9 life changing months at St. Jude I have seen one too many babies pass away from cancer, no child should ever be put through this. Another thing I have learned that despite having to strongly weather the unthinkable, my family has also seen the best in people in this most difficult situation. I hope and pray that you and your boys are getting to experience the later.
If you ever need another mom to talk to please feel free to email me. michigan_herrs@yahoo.com
